Status: Built
Location: Germantown neighborhood, Louisville, Kentucky
Adaptive re-use project and one of the first to spearhead the revitalization of the Goss Avenue corridor. The Post is one of the most beloved restaurants in Louisville.
Building Area: 2,900sf
Formerly a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post, many years of neglect had left this prototypical shotgun structure in disrepair and isolated.
The design strategy involved re-engaging the neighborhood by selectively ‘peeling away’ layers from the existing structure and reaching out to the street. The interior was ‘disassembled’ down to the wood framing and re-shaped to maximize light and connectivity. Salvaged materials from the building were exposed, refurbished and re-purposed in design elements throughout.
